BATSICCHA new build update and first sale to tenant
BATSICCHA are pleased to report the completion of our latest new build!
A major outcome for BATSICCHA has also been the sale of our new build to our first Indigenous home buyer, and transitioning tenants!
Interest was initially gauged as a result of the Company’s Home Ownership workshops.
In June 2017, BATSICCHA received official notification of its successful application for funding to the Impact Philanthropic round, for commencement for the BATSICCHA Home Ownership program.
Informed by our own Home Ownership Strategy and the identified need to better support and assist successful transitions into home ownership, BATSICCHA submit a proposal for one-off funding to commence with a program pilot and development of a suite of supporting resources, to continue to sustainably deliver the initiative as an ongoing program.
At 30 June 2018, BATSICCHA had delivered a total of 7 home ownership workshops, with a total of 49 attendees. From the workshop attendees, two progressed with financial approvals for home ownership. A direct home result of the home ownership workshops was also the successful purchase of the new build– with a support model for long standing tenants to purchase now also in development.
The Home Ownership program and workshop series is now a fixed addition to our BATSICCHA Projects arm, and a priority area for continued program delivery in the 2019/2020 period.

The BATSICCHA 2020 Community Survey
BATSICCHA are undertaking a 2020 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Housing Survey.
The survey is open to both tenants and broader members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. It is a requirement that respondents identify as Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander and are aged 18 years and over.
It is an online survey comprising a mix of quantitative and qualitative questions for completion. The survey can be accessed via the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RCQTBLH
As part of BATSICCHA’s 10year Economic Development Strategy, we have set a target to enhance the level and type(s) of support that we provide to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, and in particular, current community housing tenants; in support of our strategic target / priority of supporting community housing tenants to become economically empowered and transition to the private rental or home ownership markets.
The aim is to develop and implement a comprehensive case management model that provides individualised and culturally secure case management and coordination services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and families, to support them in addressing their wrap-around health, social and economic/financial needs (and in particular, the circumstances that contributed their homelessness and/or housing need in the first instance); and ultimately in successfully transitioning to private rental markets.
We identify that a key first step in working toward development and implementation of the new case management and coordination service model, is to receive direct input and feedback from both BATSICCHA tenants and broader Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, regarding:
-Your general personal and family situation (i.e. current housing, employment status etc.)
-Your personal and family service / support needs and priorities
-Your strengths and values, and priorities and aspirations for Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community as a whole.
In light of present events and the global COVID-19 pandemic, BATSICCHA are also prioritising receipt of tenant and community feedback regarding impacts to yourself / your family as a result of the virus. The health, financial and social impacts of COVID-19 are undeniable and BATSICCHA want to ensure our responsiveness to the immediate and ongoing needs of tenants and community as a result of this pandemic. To these ends, we have also included questions to obtain an understanding as to how you / your family have been impacted; and what your support and assistance needs / requirements are, to ensure we are doing are utmost to aid our clients and community in not only getting through, but also recovering from the impacts of COVID-19.
We are also keen to receive direct tenant and community member feedback surrounding the need, use and place for introduction of the new case management and coordination supports by BATSICCHA; and to obtain your views around the type and mix of services that you think should be included as part of any future service model.
To these ends, BATSICCHA has developed the 2020 Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Community Survey – which revolves around these above listed topics. The survey is confidential and de-identified, so you and your household/family will not be named or identifiable as part of any analysis or write-up.
You will be asked to provide de-identified consent at the start of this online survey. The survey should take around 15 – 30 minutes to complete. The close date for submission of completed surveys is now Monday 31 August 2020.
All information collected as part of this project will be stored securely and only be accessible by the project key personnel.
If you have any questions regarding the survey, please feel free to contact the listed project personnel, provided at the front of the online form.

BATSICCHA 2020 Cross-sector Housing Survey
BATSICCHA are undertaking a broad consultation and engagement to the human / social services sector; to receive direct feedback and input from services / providers regarding current housing needs and priorities; as well as pertaining to BATSICCHA’s 10year Economic Development targets; and opportunities for potential shared efficiencies and collaboration.
BATSICCHA’s 10year Economic Development targets are to:
1.Grow and diversify the supply of safe, accessible and affordable housing across the housing continuum
2.Maximise employment, training and procurement opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and businesses
3.Support community housing tenants to become economically empowered and transition to the private rental or home ownership markets
Achieving these targets necessitates cross-industry and sector collaborations / relationships; to achieve shared efficiencies; and improved outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Other aspects to BATSICCHA’s implementation plan for its 10year targets also outline opportunities and requirements for partnership and engagement – for instance with necessary consultation occurring as part of the scoping and development of BATSICCHA’s case management model – to ultimately be delivered as a complementary adjunct to routine community housing services.
In this manner, this Cross-Sector Housing Survey will provide a key first step in beginning to:
i)receive feedback from other front-line providers about regional needs and priorities pertaining to housing; and
ii)input around BATSICCHA’s planned targets and strategies – including potential willingness and flagged opportunities for collaboration.
It is an online survey comprising a mix of quantitative and qualitative questions for completion. The survey can be accessed via the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/R2DKM7C
It is up to your organisation whether you choose to be identifiable or remain anonymous.
The structure of the survey follows the logic / rationale for the project, comprising the following main sections:
-A de-deidentified ‘background’ section – aiming to obtaining basic contextual information about your service / organisation
-A dedicated section regarding Brisbane Greater Region housing need, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander housing needs and priorities specifically
-A section divided into three components, seeking feedback and input regarding BATSICCHA’s three economic development targets / priorities
It is noteworthy too that in light of recent events and the COVID-19 pandemic, a dedicated section also been included regarding the Carona Virus; in particular seeking feedback around the virus’ impacts and implications for coordinated social / human service delivery.
An information sheet appears at the front of the form, along with a consent form, which can be completed anonymously or with the respondent organisation’s name.
The survey should take between 15 and 30 minutes to complete. The close date for responses is now Monday 31 August 2020.
All information collected as part of this project will be stored securely and only be accessible by the project key personnel.
BATSICCHA will be preparing a post survey report, which will be distributed across participating stakeholders.
If you have any questions, please contact the listed project personnel using the provided details at the front of the online form.
